Agricultural
Weather and climate data to support precision farming and agricultural risk management.
The Challenge
Farming operations depend on timely, localised weather information — for planting and harvest planning, irrigation scheduling and managing weather-related risk across the growing season.
How Hermess Helps
Hermess applies its Agro Weather service to bring the same rigour used in operational oceanography to agricultural weather — combining forecast data with historical climatology for better-informed decisions.
Deliverables
- Localised weather forecasts for planting, spraying and harvest windows
- Irrigation planning support using rainfall and evapotranspiration data
- Historical climate statistics for risk and yield assessment
- Seasonal outlook data to support planning ahead of the growing season
Agro weather & climate services
For the agricultural sector we provide detailed, site-specific weather information to support growth modelling. We use a technique called data fusion to provide accurate, field specific weather data. Data fusion is a new calibration system that significantly improves meteorological data at site level and is easily scalable to facilitate the international operations / ambitions of the users. Information includes rainfall from rain radar, temperature and radiation data.
Furthermore we provide historic & future climate information to assess the effects of climate change on the agro sector.
- Day length
- Temperature
- Moisture
- Climate scenarios & impact on crops
- Occurrence of prolonged dry periods
- Heavy showers – flooding of fields
- Hot and humid – disease pressure
